It’s Salon Week at On Purpose, and this month we’ll explore the question: “What’s the right relationship between your job and your passion?”
It’s a fraught question for a lot of us — especially if you’ve been in a position where your belief in a mission or your pleasure in taking on a certain type of work has been exploited. But we spend so much of our lives working — to completely remove ourselves from our jobs hoping to stay safe can turn our work-life into an even more tedious slog.
This Thursday, we’ll hear from Nathan Clevenger — an Oakland composer, band leader and multi-instrumentalist who has devoted decades to his passion for the transformational power of chamber music. Since 2003, he’s released 6 albums and composed over 120 original pieces of new music … all while holding day jobs that, on the surface, seem completely unrelated.
