Some jobs come from a pure love of what you do. Food and the arts are some of those callings. I'm grateful that some people follow their heart, otherwise what a boring world we would live in.
The bait and switchβ¦ what a good way to put it. I have spent the past eight years of my career doing what I thought was paying my dues. βWe just need you to complete X project to build the foundation, and then you can build something beautiful on top of it.β But every time I finished one foundation, another one needed pouring. Now my whole job is pouring concrete and watching it dry, and I canβt get a role building anything beautiful due to lack of experience.
First, this is beautifully stated. The concrete metaphor is so perfect.
And it is truly a challenge to maneuver your way past being seen as only one thing. Iβve quit jobs over it β itβs like all of a sudden you canβt be anything else.
